The challenge


Schools have seen a shift in the way in which their networks are utilised in recent years. With a switch from computer suites to laptop trolleys and the introduction of mobile devices such as iPads, wireless network dependency has grown exponentially in recent years. As more and more devices require internet/network access via these wireless networks it is important to have effective connectivity in schools.

In the past, simple wireless trolley solutions were suitable for devices to access basic resources on the school’s network, but these solutions now struggle with the content distributed from learning resources such as Purple Mash to multiple devices at a time. What is required is a more robust and intelligent solution offering consistent performance and minimal school management.

If your school would like many of your children to have a device, with most of these accessing resources at the same time, then this is the solution for you.

Our Education Grade Wireless solution is an enterprise class that offers high availability wireless enabling your wireless devices to work more efficiently and reliably. The Education Grade Wireless solution is ideal for schools that have an abundance of wireless devices, or schools that are looking to increase the number of wireless devices they use.

The solution uses built-in intelligence in the cloud to run constant, system-wide optimisations. It uses this information to dynamically select the optimal channel and transmit power for each Access Point to mitigate interference from channel overlap and rogue APs.

 

How our service works


The ICT Service arranges for a third party company to carry out the site survey. That company will then order the equipment and install the Access Points. Upon installation your school will receive 30 day free support. If your school has a support package with us you will also receive ongoing support.

Frequently asked questions


Will I be able to roam around the school using my devices?
Yes, the Education Grade Wireless solution continually adapts the configuration of its access points to ensure adequate signal strength and interference reduction.

How are the access points mounted?
The access points are mounted using wall brackets.

Can I have external Wi-Fi coverage?
Yes, this solution offers external Antennas for the access points to enable external Wi-Fi coverage.

What hardware is required for wireless?
The Education Grade Wireless solution consists of access points which provide your wireless coverage. The controller is cloud-based.

As well as the access points, you may need to upgrade your network switches to power the access points.
We will be able to provide advice on this if required.
