All staff responsible for Data in schools

Overview...
As we see, two and a half years after the Data Protection Act was introduced alongside associated GDPR Legislation (May 2018), patterns are forming around the types of requests and questions we receive from school settings on a daily basis. With this in mind, we have developed this workshop to investigate and explain in detail the answers to many of the latest frequently asked questions and scenarios posed by schools.
Following on from the Essential GDPR – Getting it Right in a School Setting workshops introduced last year (which cover the basics and beyond), we will share some more detailed scenarios and reminders to ensure your school’s compliance is as up-to-date as it can be and fit for purpose.
The session will take place using Microsoft Teams and offer opportunities to share your data experiences and stories with like-minded colleagues. It doesn’t matter what your role is in the school, however, you should have a very basic understanding of the principles and rights that are associated with the UK GDPR Legislation.
All delegates will receive a copy of the session slides along with associated resources that have been designed specifically to support the content of this workshop.
Objectives...
We will cover:
- An extremely brief refresher on Rights and Principles around the legislation, detailing how they link to your everyday practices.
- What ‘essential’ paperwork you need to review and how often.
- How to deal efficiently with Subject Access Requests, including reminders about the types of data that can be shared, and who it can be shared with.
- A Question & Answer exercise including multiple choice responses (new for 2021)
- ‘When is a Data Breach not a Data Breach?’, a timely reminder about when incidents need to be reported and when it is ok to simply record at school level.
- Updates from the ICO around the UK GDPR Legislation (don’t worry this will only be one slide).
- Lots of tips and hints around your everyday working practices.
We are confident that this workshop will be an extremely useful refresher and look forward to seeing you on one of the sessions very soon.
Don’t forget if you want ‘all school’ staff data protection training, this is offered as part of our GDPR DPO package. If you would like an after school or INSET day session, please do get in touch for more details and costs.
