Pre-requisites...
Depending on the delegate’s position in the school, Access/Permission for EPM/Barclays/SIMSPay may be required.

Overview...
This course is available upon request. Express interest and we will be in contact to arrange the appropriate delivery format and time for you.
This course has been designed to take place remotely over three sessions plus a number of additional shorter remote sessions (either two one-hour sessions or four half-hour sessions, to be arranged with the tutor).
Each session will take the delegate through the maintained schools monthly processes, which must be carried out by the school and SSCT (Schools Strategic Corporate Team), whilst adhering to the financial regulations for schools.
In these sessions we will work on your system, using your data.
Manuals and training materials will be provided in each session for delegates to take away and use as reference guides.
We will also introduce the recommended monthly calendar/checklist.
Objectives...
Session One: 1.5 hours – Accounts Payable
There will be a brief overview of the makeup of FMS and CCC Regulations and requirements.
We will then take a look at all areas within Accounts Payable:
- Suppliers.
- Purchase Orders.
- Invoices – looking at the three types of invoices (Order invoices, Non-order invoices, Sundry invoices).
- Invoice payments – looking at BACS and Cheque Processing.
- Accounts Payable Reporting.
We will also present an overview of basic recording of income using Non-Invoiced Income and Manual Journal Processing.
Session Two: 1 hour – Journals and Payroll Control
We will first complete a quick recap of the content covered in session one and then take delegates through:
- An overview of Payroll Control and how it must be operated (with timescales).
- An introduction to journals, when to use them and the effect different journals will have on the bank balance within FMS. Including a look at cloning and contra journals – and when these are appropriate.
- A discussion, to interpret and input the school funding and how it is ‘paid’ to schools and how it must be input into FMS.
- Payroll costings report from Payroll provider and how it must be input into FMS.
Session Three – 1.5 hours – Period End
We will cover:
- Bank reconciliation.
- Payroll Controls Parts 1 and 2.
- Running the CEA and uploading to Orovia
- Running VAT reports and Submittals for Month End
- How to complete the MER (Month End Report) for SSCT
- Budget Adjustments
These could be two one-hour sessions or four half-hour sessions and may be scheduled to include a member of SSCT to attend. We estimate that each of the above will require, as a minimum, a half hour to cover, so delegates will be required to choose what is needed.
The additional remote sessions will be scheduled with the delegates individually and would cover a combination of the following as required:
- Budget Adjustments
- How to link Ledger Codes to Cost Centres
- How to create Cost Centres
