Working & Learning in the Cloud

Incorporate and maximise cloud computing into your day-to-day activities



Most primary schools already employ various forms of cloud services either through a website, as web services for communication with parents, for governance and school administration, for storage of information or to support pupil learning in maths, reading or other curriculum areas.

How can The ICT Service help?

In association with eSchools, the ELearning Team supplies the Starz+ Platform which supports pupils' learning through a centrally managed collection of learning resources, activities and projects.

Safety risks are minimised and pupils can practise appropriate online behaviour. Many subscribing schools are also using the available Office Tools which come free as part of their subscription including Letters Home, Text Sender, Parent Evening Booking Tool, Registers and Website Template & Hosting.

   A growing number of schools in Cambridgeshire subscribe to Purple Mash. This too is a cloud solution for 3-11 year olds and covers all aspects of the curriculum. Children can save their work in their own folder and then access this work in school and at home. Children can collaborate online, teachers can create, set and mark work online and parents can see their child’s work in the online environment. Having completed the relevant training, the ELearning Team are all accredited trainers for Purple Mash.

Moving forward

The terms ‘cloud services’ or ‘cloud computing’ now extend to the services or products of larger companies such as Microsoft, Google and Apple. Cloud technology provision from these companies and the working systems, practices and technologies associated with their virtualised data services have the potential to impact many areas of school life.
The ICT Service is currently working alongside some of our schools to explore the opportunities these various solutions offer.
