SEAF - The Cambridgeshire Self-Evaluation and Assessment Framework

This Cambridgeshire framework sets out the background, principles and rigour for leaders and managers to support self-evaluation, accelerating achievement and removing barriers to learning. 

It aims to capture an overview of the county’s policy and approach towards school self-evaluation and assessment.

It reflects the Accelerating Achievement strategy by highlighting key strategies and priorities including the achievement of disadvantaged groups such as the combined FSM & SEND.
 
A consultative group of Associate Headteachers, LA officers and Ofsted Inspectors have worked together to ensure the framework addresses the needs of colleagues in Primary, Nursery and Special schools as well as the requirements for Ofsted.  
 
It is reviewed annually to ensure fitness for purpose and in the light of new reforms and initiatives.
 
School self-evaluation requires the systematic reflection of a range of school information and pupil performance data.  
 
Valid and reliable evidence underpins good evaluation and needs to be collected systematically with internal checks on quality and external moderation of judgements.
 
The most important components are as follows: 
 
  • Daily perceptions of pupils in formative interactions
  • Termly, ongoing honest and robust assessment used developmentally
  • Moderated internal assessments represent progress against expectations or targets 
  • External results represent progress against national expectations and standards 
  • The tracking, over several years, of performance at cohort, subject and individual pupil level is important to demonstrate how things are improving

The framework includes a very helpful (as schools tell us) Annual Calendar Poster (download here) of the key dates and prompts for important actions.

Although the SEAF indicates the Cambridgeshire Solution for Assessment as the ideal option,  it does also offer some really helpful and simple checks in selecting the best solution for schools from the many commercial offerings.
