Making the Most of Apple iPads

Many secondary schools and academies have invested heavily in Apple iPads in recent years. These are expensive devices that can offer significant opportunities for both teachers and learners.
The experience in many institutions is that the take-up and full use of this significant ICT resource is not always achieved. The full range of benefits available from making the investment are often missed.
Apple iPads are powerful educational tools that demand an innovative approach to learning and teaching if they are going to be utilised fully. They are not merely a small version of a laptop nor should they be seen as just lightweight devices used to add fun and engagement to learning.
The ICT Service supports a large number of schools with their use of Apple iPads, helping them to develop learning activities and manage the devices to ensure that they can all have identical apps and configurations.
We understand that most secondary schools and academies will have the expertise to manage their Apple iPads themselves; so this consultancy is designed to help subject leaders and other interested colleagues identify ways in which they could incorporate the use of Apple iPads into their Schemes of Work.
Our consultants will work with your staff to develop learning and assessment activities to expand the use of Apple iPads across subject areas.


Monitoring and Evaluating ICT Investment

The ICT budget forms a significant proportion of the expenditure that any school or academy will spend on resources but it has always been difficult to measure how worthwhile the expenditure is.
The need to replace and upgrade both hardware and software will place an upward pressure on the budget at the same time as new technology emerges to stretch the ICT budget even further.
This consultancy looks at the ways in which it is possible to measure the effectiveness of expenditure and investment in ICT. It will also give school and academy leaders the tools they can use for this activity in the future.
Our service will help school leaders to produce evidence for Ofsted regarding the impact of ICT expenditure on educational outcomes and will support the development of strategic expenditure plans.


Using Technology for Collaborative Learning

Digital technologies offer new opportunities for learning in an increasingly connected society, in which learning to work and collaborate with others has become an extremely important skill.
There are a wide range of tools that are available for teachers and classroom staff to use to develop collaborative learning activities with their students.
This consultancy looks at the tools that are available and we will work with
colleagues interested in using these tools to develop different pedagogical approaches
to engage and enthuse
students in their learning.
We will also facilitate teachers and classroom staff to get in touch with their peers in other
schools to share best
practice and help them to develop the use of these tools across participating institutions.
