Cloud Computing in Schools

Cloud platforms to enhance teaching and access to data – Installation, training and management services

The challenge

The adoption of Cloud based services are rapidly becoming the solution to the modern education needs and demands of students and staff in schools – data accessible anywhere and from any Internet connected device.

Many schools are pushing for the use of cloud based services, for classroom and administration, but may find that they do not have the right resources or skillsets available to set them up, to train their staff and to maintain the platforms to get the most benefit out of them.  Some schools may also still need to be convinced of the benefits - efficiency and cost savings - that taking their data and processes into the Cloud can bring.

The solution

The ICT Service is here to assist schools – we can give advice and carry out the initial set up of the chosen Cloud platform, provide support and training for staff to ensure the benefits of Cloud are realised; plus provide an ongoing managed service for cloud computing requirements (including the necessary maintenance and updates, with recommendations for putting in place safeguarding and data protection policies plus procurement of equipment and devices).

Cloud benefits include:

  • Easy access and storage – lesson plans, notes, presentation slides and anything digital you use for teaching, easily uploaded and accessed any time (no need to carry about USB or external hard drives).
  • Stability and security - Cloud is proven stable technology that you can rely on, with data, content, and images secured with authentication (ID and password, for example) available where and when you want it.  EU data protection regulations compliant.
  • Sharing and tracking files – share some or all your files by sending links to the file(s) destination and refer to previous revisions and versions as required.
  • Preparation and collaboration – Students can do group projects and assignment work in the Cloud, in and out of the classroom, even homework can be set, delivered and shared with parents.
  • Synchronisation – with the school’s Active Directory to manage user accounts and groups for both staff and students.
  • Saying goodbye to paper – with cloud based services, school’s classrooms and administration will be closer to being paper-free than ever before.
The ICT Service can advise, support and train school staff for a range of Cloud service products, including:
