Central Hosting

A fully-hosted MIS service
with remote access

The challenge

To provide schools with central secure access to their SIMS and FMS data and office files, including remote access for staff to work from home if required. To reduce the need to provide local technical support for backups and upgrades.

The solution

A fully-hosted MIS service with remote access, with SIMS and FMS at its core. Our Central Hosting service can also include access to all
office documents and email. Central Hosting runs in a full ‘desktop’ launched from a web browser that complies with all relevant government security standards.
Most users access the service from its login page at
You can use a wide variety of technology for access including Apple devices and a wide range of web browsers; but note that the applications that are hosted are not designed for tablet use.
We also offer a range of remote access authentication options from full 2-factor to simpler access for staff with no access to sensitive data.

Schools using Central Hosting have
realised many benefits including:

  • time and stress saved by not needing to handle technical maintenance such as upgrades
  • improved security – no worries about personal data on tablets, memory sticks or laptops if they’re lost or stolen
  • highly-secure 2-factor security outside the school premises; convenient ID/password when onsite that can be linked to your network logon
  • access to MIS from anywhere in the school or outside
  • older equipment can continue to be used
  • more ambitious use of MIS across the school with a greater number of staff
  • continuing to use your existing MIS support provider.

How our service works

When a school signs up for Central Hosting, our experienced staff will contact the school to determine which parts of your systems you wish to have hosted, who will need remote access and set up access.

SIMS and FMS security is managed by the school as normal. We also provide a user administration application that enables the school to control access to their Central Hosting. Two remote access key fobs are provided as standard and schools can purchase more if they wish.
On an agreed date, data and files are copied overnight onto the hosting service and staff are shown how to access Central Hosting, usually via a shortcut on their computer. Because Central Hosting looks like the system you are already using, very little training is required, other than to explain how to log on and access files and printers.
See details of our Remote Access Service for information about purchasing further key fobs.

All schools using SIMS in Cambridgeshire. We are able to support SIMS schools in other areas but please call to confirm availability. This will have little or no impact on your school's SIMS support, which can be from any support provider.
