SIMS Schools Support Officers

The challenge

The school office is the hub of the school’s administrative operations, so it is essential that it runs smoothly. However, even in the best-run schools unplanned problems will arise – staff suddenly going on extended sick leave or a sudden temporary increase in workload such as academy conversion or school merger. And then there’s the need to cover planned but short-term vacancies, maternity absence or a break before a new recruit can join the team.
You need someone with experience and skill in using school systems who will fit in quickly without requiring a lot of supervision. You try an agency but the candidates rarely have existing SIMS and FMS skills, so time is needed for them to become productive, and this puts pressure on existing staff.


The solution

What you need is an ‘Admin Angel’ – an experienced SIMS user you can hire for just a few hours a week to tide the school over. We have recruited a number of staff members as SIMS Schools Support Officers, with previous experience working in schools. They have a range of skills across several areas of SIMS and are familiar with the rich variety of tasks that school office staff have to deal with.
We provide regular training for staff so that their skills are up-to-date and they are able to provide the best possible service across a wide range of systems.
In previous years The ICT Service has offered this kind of service utilising our experienced trainers and consultants. While this is still an option for schools, we have concluded that pricing this service at consultancy rates is prohibitive for many schools. The Admin Angels service is very competitively priced and at far less than consultancy rates.
We can offer support in most areas of SIMS and FMS, including student details, attendance, personnel, census and assessment, as well as separate packages such as Dinner Money, In Touch and Agora.


How our service works

You can call The ICT Service Helpline on 0300 300 0000, and talk through your school’s needs in terms of skills and hours that might be required, or email We can then match up your requirements with one of our Admin Angels. We will introduce you and you will be welcome to invite our candidate for an interview, to set the start date, hours and days required.
In line with our quality assurance procedures, at the end of the placement we will ask you to complete a short questionnaire regarding the services you have received from The ICT Service.
