  • Designing the EWO Weekly Attendance Report

    Improving life for school administrators, by providing efficient ways to complete the mundane tasks they are expected to undertake, is something that The ICT Service MIS and Helpline teams take pride in doing.

    Just one example of this is the Weekly Attendance Report that our Helpline team member, Rob Gorst, has designed to support Thonglsey Fields Primary School and a number other schools in Cambridgeshire using SIMS.

  • Collaborative Project Story Circles

    Focusing on Fairy Stories and Traditional Tales, Story Circles aims to support Foundation and KS1pupils become familiar with key stories, fairy stories and traditional tales. Classes come together to work collaboratively to compose a story in parts by passing it around a circle, a different chapter each week.

  • Making the Most of iPads

    Thomas Deacon Academy (Junior) took the decision to invest heavily in iPads to support learning and aid pupils in becoming increasingly digitally literate. These devices are in addition to existing desktop and
    laptop provision, but were particularly chosen to allow the use of technology to be quickly and easily integrated into each classroom.

    However, the school felt that the children were not fully utilising the potential opportunities presented by the iPads and they therefore were not having the intended impact on learning. Having worked with The ICT Service in the effective use of iPads at a previous school, the junior College Leader – Simon Martin – contacted the elearning team to explore how the use of this technology could be developed further.

  • How Technology is being used to support a child with SEND

    St Anne’s Primary school were working hard to support a pupil in their school whom they felt was not fulfilling their full potential due to the difficulties they encountered. The school felt that technology could be used to have a positive impact on the pupil’s learning. The school wanted to ensure that they maximised the impact on learning, whilst also guaranteeing the technology would work with their existing infrastructure.

  • The Impact of Pre-Paid Consultancy

    Each year The ICT Service offers schools the opportunity to pre-pay for consultancies for the following financial year.

    This means schools benefit from planning more strategically for the year ahead and receive a reduction in how much they pay. It allows the school to make the most of their investment and ensure they obtain the right training and advice.

    Shirley Community Primary School has purchased pre-paid consultancies from The ICT Service for many years and have found this provided a service, which meets their specific needs. The school has focused on improving children’s capability and making sure the children enjoy a progressive, rigorous and engaging curriculum. This has had the impact of benefiting both their teachers and their pupils. In the past the school have asked the curriculum team to support them with planning, training and teaching.

  • Providing regular in-school support at Weatheralls Primary School, Soham, Cambridgeshire

    Weatheralls Primary School makes use of a number of services provided by The ICT Service to ensure that they have, and maintain, a secure and sustainable infrastructure for learning, teaching and school management. The school has engaged The ICT Service to conduct technical visits on a regular basis by sending a dedicated and skilled ICT technician to work alongside the school’s own ICT technician at scheduled times.

    Teaching staff at Weatheralls Primary School also engage The ICT Service for both in-school consultancy and training courses to ensure that they keep abreast of local and national initiatives related to the use of technology.

  • Making the most of consultants at Wyton-on-the-Hill Primary School, Wyton, Cambridgeshire

    Wyton-on-the-Hill Primary school is in the centre of the county, close to the Wyton RAF base. It has approximately 140 pupils and roughly half of them have parents or carers in the armed forces. The changes in personnel at the base mean that pupils now come from Army as well as RAF families.

    Donna Flynn, Management Information System Consultant at The ICT service, has been working closely with the school, using SIMS. Headteacher, Jo Phillips says:

    ‘Since Donna has been working as a consultant to the school, she has impacted positively on many aspects of school life. This is mainly because she not only comes equipped to take on any challenge presented by changes in the school’s needs, she also comes prepared to listen carefully and to work collaboratively with team members, involving them fully in the processes.’

  • Supplying Apple iPad technology and supporting change at Ely St Mary's Junior School, Ely, Cambridgeshire

    ‘The iPads were a huge leap forward for our school in regards to ICT. Leaving behind our computer suite and beginning to use these much more portable, exciting devices was something we wanted to plan carefully.

    Both staff and children have been able to use them for some exciting projects using Apps like iMovie, Popplet, Book Creator, Puppet Pals and Voice Recorder. We wanted a WOW factor for our school and the iPads have definitely provided this…. If only we had more!’ - Emily Carr, Ely St Mary’s
